Hopf Algebras and Quasisymmetric Powersums

In this talk we will introduce a new basis for Quasisymmetric functions that refine the symmetric powersum basis. The change of basis to the quasisymmetric monomial basis has a combinatorial interpretation given by fillings of matrices. This basis has a nice product and coproduct that is then extended to matrix fillings thereby making a Hopf algebra of matrix fillings.
